Current affairs

On this page we gather information on interesting issues and try to shed light on things that are happening "backstage" - naturally only as far as our NDA agreements and other trade secret obligations allow. Our activities really are no secret and we also want to give hobbyists as much perspective as possible on what is happening behind the scenes of our collecting hobby! (* ^ v ^ *)

2.7.2024 | We're revising our pricing - some products will be cheaper, orders under 20 euros will have a small delivery fee and all our deliveries will be tracked by Post!

Costs have risen, our range is growing and the need has arisen to revise the pricing basis - in short, the prices of many products that fit in a small package (doujinis, acrylic figures, pins, stickers...) are coming down!

Wait, did I read that right...? Alongside the increased costs, of course, you're normally used to seeing prices just going up across the board, rather than down? The current economic situation and the business environment it creates do create many challenges, but there are always opportunities and we have managed to find new and more efficient solutions with our partners - and of course we always prefer to use the advantages and benefits for the benefit of our customers, on behalf of the Finnish anime hobby! (^v^)

But the increased costs are an unfortunate reality and they will inevitably show up in our accounts, so our solution is that the negative impact will be felt on orders below €20. We will introduce a €2.90 delivery charge for orders below €20 to cover the actual delivery costs for smaller orders such as single doujin keyrings or similar items. We have reached the point where the delivery cost of a single sticker or keyring has become disproportionately high in terms of transport and we do not feel it is fair to pass on the cost to other products. This means that everyone only ever pays the actual cost of their own order - and for orders over €20, there's free delivery again!

We always do our best to keep our prices affordable and fair to all subscribers! Here are some more examples of the effects of price changes

6.1.2024 | Unrest in the Red Sea region causes major problems for freight transport

The regional instability that started in December has caused significant problems for the cargo ships that carry a significant proportion of our own shipments. We are monitoring the situation closely and will report delays in advances wherever possible. However, in this situation, time estimates are at best educated guesses as some ships will always be able to proceed and others will choose to detour. However, there is no tracking of this because the shipping company will not tell us which particular vessel has which container, so we can only wait for the container to be scanned at the EU border for customs.

However, we believe that the safety of the shipowners' personnel and avoiding an escalation of the situation in the area are the most important things to do now, and all parties will certainly do their best to ensure that traffic returns to normal soon. Thank you for your patience!

17.9.2022 - PayPal payment surcharge valid, why?

PayPal's merchant commissions are in a class of their own compared to other providers, and we have long paid these costs on behalf of our payment method customers. Now, with galloping inflation and other cost increases putting us under enormous pressure to raise prices, this is unfortunately no longer an option for us.

We considered for a long time different options on how we could solve the issue; passing on the commission costs to all customers by increasing all prices would not be fair so we decided to set PayPal a 2% surcharge to cover the difference in their pricing. This way PayPal will still be available and only its users will pay for the service (and of course we will still pay our share of PayPal's commission).

We would prefer to offer PayPal at a lower price but unfortunately they don't come to us at all when discussing pricing. We always explore all options and work hard to keep our prices low in these challenging times. A warm thank you to all our wonderful customers - you make our business possible! (^ᴗ^)

17.7.2022 – Increasing delays in the delivery of letter mail, as a result of "operational efficiencies" The Post Office is driving greetings hundreds of kilometres across Finland with our letters. // Edit 2.7.2024, we have stopped using snail mail and these problems are gone - all our deliveries now have tracking!

Regarding the slowness of our letter mail, we cannot do anything about it because Posti has decided to unilaterally change (in our view, neglect) the prepaid contracts; the letter mail should arrive within 5 working days at the latest, but recently we have received regular feedback that deliveries take two, at worst three weeks. This is probably another result of the Post Office's "efficiency measures" which are having a completely counterproductive effect on our customers - this is astonishing at a time when unnecessary truck driving should definitely be reduced, even at the risk of creating some extra jobs - Yle has done an excellent article on this (https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-12531237).

Thank you for your patience, we are constantly exploring alternative delivery methods.

4.12.2021PayPal vs Visma / Paytrail / etc.

There are a few issues with PayPal that are not mentioned on the front page of the service, but it would be definitely good for the consumer using the service to know.

Within the framework of its contractual conditions (to which the user agrees when creating an account), Paypal reserves the right to collect and transmit information about its customers and transactions to its "third party" partners. Based on its domicile and thus operating under the more relaxed US law, PayPal also transmits more information about the buyer and the transaction to its customer (who is the seller) than any other payment method; especially when compared to payment intermediaries registered in Finland, approved by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority and subject to Finnish law, such as Paytrail or Finanime's partner Visma Pay. PayPal takes a much higher commission from the merchant for this compared to others, and for a small business this hits profitability hard.

But what about GDPR? At this point, PayPal's EU branch, which is registered like many other companies - comes as a surprise - to Luxembourg, because it is there that local legislation is said to be favorable to companies' tax and other needs. PayPal does not deal with the EU itself in the direction of the supervisory authorities, but is represented by another Luxembourg company, so that effective monitoring of compliance with the GDPR - or indeed of any other social obligation - is not possible under Luxembourg local law. Yes, much has been written about the subject in public, but these articles often receive little attention. On the other hand, the user has given permission for the data to be collected by agreeing to the terms of the user agreement, but few of us actually read it with thought and many updates.

However, PayPal is trustworthy and has created an impressive image of secure transactions so understandably many of our customers still want Paypal as a form of payment and a kind of guarantor; and yes, when paid with foreign shops, it defends its place against fraudsters as financial security for the buyer. The consumer only pays for the use of their privacy.

For these reasons, we have even considered giving up PayPal for domestic payments, as it actually does more harm than good for both our customers and us, but at the same time we really want to give our subscribers the freedom to choose from as many payment methods as possible. Our customers are valuable to us.
